DEISON | MINGLE – Weak Life on  KULTURTERRORISMUS.

http://kulturterrorismus.de/rezensionen/deison-mingle-weak-life.html

Fazit:

“Weak Life” di Deison & Mingle

By VALENTINA ZARDINI

A Découvrir Absolument

Deison/Mingle “Weak Life” (Aagoo Records)

http://www.adecouvrirabsolument.com/spip.php?article5939

Deison & Mingle – Weak Life (CD Album – Aagoo Records) reviewed on Side-Line.

Genre/Influences: IDM, experimental, electro-ambient. Content: This is the 3rd release on which Cristiano Deison (Deison) and Andrea Gastaldello (Mingle) joined hands again to accomplish what I would call their ‘opus magnum’.
The previous full length “Everything Collapse(d)” was an interesting work revealing meticulous sound treatments and intelligent arrangements, which appealed for lovers of IDM. “Weak Life” sounds like it is picking up where their 1st album left off, although 4 tracks of their EP “Low Blood Pressure” have been included here as well. The work again is based upon intriguing sound atmospheres creating a real ambient style while the slow rhythms and subtle electro loops get closer to pure IDM. The compositions were conceived with intelligence and e progressively reach an impressive final part featuring several outstanding cuts.
The tracks feature rather complex structures where the listener sometimes get the impression of getting lost in a real -and sometimes bizarre sound gallery. Atmospheres sometimes becoming tormenting (cf. “Unanimated”) and another cut (cf. “Lost Pieces”) is driven by a somewhat tribal sounding cadence.
Things get really fascinating with “Bloody Feelings”, which reveals impressive sound sculptures and some industrial-like percussion. The track is draped in a kind of suffocating atmosphere. That’s just an appetizer for the even more sophisticated and totally into IDM-like “Circle Of Red Drops”. “Perfect Huddle” is a similar track and one more attention grabber. Dark sound waves are embedded in both tracks as if confirming the strong ambient element of the album as well, which finally ends with a pure ambient-like passage.
Conclusion: Deison & Mingle both are pure sound architects, which on this new album reveal their talent. This is a quite diversified and brilliant work, which I can only but highly recommend.
Best songs: “Circle Of Red Drops”, “Him Seite”, “Perfect Huddle”, “Skeptic Move”, “Bloody Feelings”.
Rate: (DP:8½)DP.

Deison & Mingle - Weak Life (Aagoo Records) on A Closer Listen

http://acloserlisten.com/2015/02/04/electronic-observations-circuits-and-wires/

We’ve covered the work of Deison & Mingle before, as well as Deison on his own; we’ve come to the obvious conclusion that everything this duo releases is going to be worth our attention. Andrea Gastaldello is an accomplished scorer of documentary films, while Christiano Deison was once a member of Meathead. This provides little indication of their current sound, save for the fact that it is both filmic and experimental. Everything Collapse[d] included a Swans cover, while the new album tackles Godflesh; but it takes a while for each album to work up to such moments, which are more like hidden gifts. Instead, Weak Life (Aagoo Records, 9 February) launches in dark ambience, informed by early industrial music. The deep, dark bass of “Tangles” is mastered as well as one can dream: as cavernous as an air hanger. Such clarity produces a sense of cold anticipation whenever the beats drop out, as they do on “Osso Temporale”; one is afraid of what may happen next. But like Murcof, Deison & Mingle operate more in the field of menace than that of murder, an effective tactic on a sustained work. The title track breaks the mold with piano and dragged chain, but there’s nothing weak about this life; in all facets, this is a more powerful and consistent work than the duo’s already accomplished debut.

Aagoo Rec. Deison / Mingle : Weak Life (I,2015)****

Where Deison & Mingle in their previous album released an album that kept a more ambient context, in this album they enhanced that atmosphere with more dimensions and directions. The ambient spheres, soundtrack and journey continues, with some three dimensional space and echoes, but you also hear bubbling and hissing and digital ticks or beeps. The whole atmosphere becomes vivid with slow changes and some variety in emphasis, from beat to mood, brushing and breathing with sounds, much more spatial analogue-electronic or as effect, than having an electro-acoustic association. “Girn Seite” has an interesting element of an electronic sound of a telephone calling recorded via some answering machine or so, mixed with ticking digital rhythms. It also features a didgeridoo like drone that is added to it somewhere, while changing further on into a slow ambient soundtrack with certain waves of beeps and bass rhythms in the background. The first half of “Obliguity (Low)” could have taken, or work, in a surreal suspense film soundtrack context, with its sounds possibly coming from a stretched drone on piano, and more. The album succeeds well to entertain with its changes as an enjoyable listening journey.

Deison & Mingle – Weak Life (cd, Aagoo/ Five Roses)
